Understand the Risk Honestly

• Direct hurricane hits on Los Cabos are uncommon but not rare — the region has been struck a handful of times in recent decades.
• Far more common is a storm passing offshore, bringing a day or two of heavy rain, wind, high surf, and beach closures.
• Storms are forecast days in advance. You will not be surprised. The National Hurricane Center and Mexico's Conagua issue tracking updates well before any impact.
• Resorts and larger vacation rentals in Los Cabos have hurricane protocols. Ask your host or property manager about theirs when you check in during these months.

2. Talk to your host or hotel. Follow their instructions — they know the property. Some rentals require guests to relocate to a hardened hotel; hotels may move guests to interior rooms.
3. Register with your consulate if you're a foreign national, so you're reachable.
4. Charge everything, fill water containers, know where the flashlights are.
5. Stay inside during the storm, away from windows. Don't go to the beach to watch the surf — that's how people get hurt.
6. After it passes, watch for downed lines, flooded roads, and arroyos. Don't drive through moving water.
